Burnham Racing is proud to ring in Illinois’ competitive cycling season with the 2010 Spring Super Criterium, slated for Saturday, March 27 at the Blackhawk Farms Raceway in South Beloit, Ill. Now in its third year, the Super Criterium is the highly-anticipated and highly-attended tipoff to USA Cycling’s Illinois calendar. The event is also the first stop for the 2010 Illinois Cup, a season-long series that recognizes the region’s most consistent riders.
The “Super” aspect of the Spring Super Criterium refers to the grand scale of the course awaiting riders in South Beloit. This event is the only non-motorsport activity to ever be sanctioned on Blackhawk Farms’ dynamic, 1.9-mile auto rally course. The wide turns and near-zero risk of traffic interference provide a safe yet competitive environment that is ideal for first-time and less-experienced racers, as well as the veterans who are shaking out the offseason cobwebs. Additional amenities that are key for an early-season event include indoor viewing facilities, an indoor changing area, shelters for warming up on stationary trainers and a well-stocked concessions booth. Burnham Racing will provide on-site medical resources throughout the day. New for 2010, neutral mechanical assistance will be provided and staffed by Chicago’s Kozy’s Cyclery.
Blackhawk Farms is conveniently located just 90 minutes from both Milwaukee and Chicago, and is just one hour from Madison, Wis. The event will be sanctioned by USA Cycling, hosted by Chicago’s Burnham Racing and the Spidermonkey Cycling Program.
Racing gets underway with the Men’s Category 5 event at 8:30 a.m. and concludes with the Men's Category 4/5 race, which begins at 4:15 p.m. Twelve total categories will be offered, including multiple women's and masters racing opportunities.
Race sponsors and prizes will be announced prior to the event. Check back soon for more details!
Registration opens on February 1 at www.bikereg.com. The official race flyer can be downloaded in PDF format here. The Technical Guide can be found here. Competitors will need to be licensed members of USA Cycling. Both existing license renewals and one-day licenses will be available at the event.
